Key Lime Pie

Key Lime Slice

Key lime pie has been a staple dessert in our family ever since we started eating at our favorite sushi restaurant, Chief’s Sushi and Seafood Market. After the restaurant’s unfortunate replacement, we set out to look for a simple recipe that could rival our childhood memories and so we turned to Patti Shalley. I’m Going Bananas would like to thank her for her contribution this week and further collaborations to come!

Tiramisu

italian tiramisu

This week we decided to stick to our Italian roots and give you one of our favorite dessert recipes. Family vacations to Italy always leave us craving more, so after countless unrewarding searches for Tiramisu in Miami we decided to make our very own. Literally translated to pick-me-up, this dessert is very quick and easy to make. It can be stored in either the fridge or the freezer, in case you’re in the mood for an even more refreshing, ice cream cake dessert.

Pumpkin Bread

Pumpkin Bread
Having been introduced to our family only recently, this week’s recipe definitely tops the list of holiday themed desserts. Ever since I moved up to Long Island, my girlfriend’s parents have been inviting me to family dinners several times a week. So it only seemed right that this week’s recipe was one of Ellen Salay’s. One of the most sought after desserts in her household, and now ours, this pumpkin bread will keep everyone coming back for more.

Pavlova with mixed berries

Pavlova-with-strawberry-kiwi

The recipe for Pavlova was first brought to our household on a family vacation to England. Our first spoonful of this sweet and fruity dessert was all because of Alexandra Loader, our British/Italian cousin. After that first encounter, the Pavlova recipe evolved slightly and became infamous in our family. It has been continuously requested for family occasions, especially birthday’s.

Chocolate Guinness Cupcakes

Chocolate-Cupcakes

This week we really wanted to create a Halloween inspired recipe and came up with these delicious chocolate cupcakes made with Guinness stout and topped with pumpkin cream cheese frosting. Our family rarely makes cupcakes. We just tend to make cakes for birthday dinners instead. Having a large family that gets together often for dinner gives us opportunities to be creative and try out new recipes. Although these are probably the second batch of cupcakes to ever come out of our oven, we really like how they came out. This recipe was adapted from a cake we love from SmittenKitchen and added our very own frosting. Happy Halloween!

Quesillo (Venezuelan Flan)

Quesillo-Slice

The Quesillo recipe pronounced “ke see yo” has bounced around our family since as long as I can remember. Every recipe each with it’s own quirks. These days I frequently get calls asking about my exact recipe. It’s not everyday your grandmother asks you how to cook something! I will however warn you: Quesillo is not for everyone. I have learned that some people aren’t accustomed to the texture and just don’t like it. To that I can only really say that at least there will be more for the rest of us.
